Huskies Finish Strong at Slippery Rock
BLOOMSBURG -- The Bloomsburg University cross country teams raced at Slippery Rock University on Saturday morning. The women's team finished only five points behind IUP for second place while the men's team finished third.
Amber Hackenberg (Middleberg/Middleberg) led the women's team with a fifth place finish out of 98 runners. She finished the 6K race with a time of 23:58. Beth Schwing (Hershey/Lower Dauphin) was the second finisher for the Huskies, placing 7th in a time of 24:03.
The Bloomsburg women had four other runners in the top 20 at the event, Toni Zangari (Sunbury/Shikellamy) took 13th in a time of 24:39 while Ashley Shuck (Milton/Milton), Angela Borealo (Easton/Easton), and Sarah Bounds (Shippensburg/Shippensburg) placed 16th, 17th and 18th respectively.
For the men, Justin Shepherd (Cranberry Twp. /Seneca Valley) took second place out of 99 finishers, running the 8K race in 26:00. Also finishing in the top 20 were Jimmy Stockley (Elverson /Twin Valley) who took 21st in 27:36 and Dan Tallarico (Pittsburgh/North Hills) who placed 22nd in 27:39.
The Huskies' junior varsity team will run at Elizabethtown College next Saturday at 11:00 a.m. and Bloomsburg will host the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships on October 28th beginning at 10:00 a.m.
